Is Sugar Bad For Athletes?
In this day and age, there is no shortage of sugar slander. The uneducated health and fitness crowd has demonized any and all sugar and fails to differentiate natural sugars (fructose and lactose) from modified sugars (sucrose and added sugars). These self-proclaimed experts can create a lot more confusion than clarity and prevent people from advancing their health-seeking behaviors.

Hydration has become the duct tape of sports medicine. Coaches (especially high school football coaches) love to yell, “WATER! WATER! WATER!” during every timeout and at the end of every quarter. While I agree that hydration is important, there is a lot of misunderstanding about how water works in the human body and how it can/cannot improve athletic performance.

Good and Bad Foods
So, is an apple better than a bag of gummy bears? That depends on what purpose and service you are looking for. If your goal is to eat something delicious and to satisfy your cravings, the gummy bears probably serve that purpose better than an apple. However, if your goal is to lose weight by consuming nutrient dense foods that provide your body with everything it needs to operate efficiently, the apple is likely the winner.

Protein
Nutrition can be confusing and stressful. Many people struggle with small daily choices that lead to health problems such as overweight, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Protein is just one small piece of the nutrition puzzle. But after focusing on balancing your calories and setting your macronutrient goals, you will be well on your way to eating a healthy diet.
